Delray Beach Travel Guide

Rachel Sax

Truth be told, It felt strange at first to be spending Thanksgiving without cool temps and fall foliage....until I sank onto a lounge chair at the Colony Cabana Club. This year for Thanksgiving, my grandmother hosted our family down in Delray Beach on the South East coast of Florida. Delray's bright colors and vintage architecture have always been a great source of inspiration for Nona E Rose and my Grandmother's house has always been my place of peace. This trip we stayed at the Colony; and old historic hotel that also gives you access to the Colony Cabana Beach Club.

The bright lobby of the Colony Hotel

The club is right on the beach with it's own pool, 90 degree plunge pool, and (byob) cafe. It's the perfect laid back spot to enjoy a few hours in the sun. The hotel and the club combine just the right mix of vintage Florida and modern details.

We had most of our meals this past weekend at my Grandmother's but here are a few of my favorite spots in Downtown Delray;

Lunch or Dinner:

32 East-The busy atmosphere and hard to get reservation are worth the innovative dishes, daily fresh catches, and stellar wine list.

Brule Bistro-A cozy spot off the main drag in Pineapple Grove. The french influenced-modern american dishes are well thought out without being pretentious. It's the kind of place I try and get to twice in one trip when I can. Perfect for date night or girls nights.

Ice Cream (my beach weekend essential)

Kilwins-Part of a chain of Old Fashion Ice Cream and Candy stores. No explanation needed:)

Doc's All American-When my brother and I were little, we wanted to go to the beach just to have an excuse to stop here on the way home for Ice Cream and Milkshakes.(No website, located on the corner of Swinton and East atlantic.)

Shopping

Periwinkle-A cute spot for clothes,accessories, and small personalized gifts.

 I hope everyone had just as great of a Thanksgiving as we did; full of family, laughs, and (too much) great food.
